Music as inspiration is nothing new, and yet it never stops being so damn relevant.
Yesterday, I sat down to grind out a couple of pages and had my Cranberries station playing quietly in the background. “Daffodil Lament” came on, and I felt myself drift into a mix of adoration and sorrow. I love The Cranberries, and I always have. Hell, “When You’re Gone” is my wedding song, and I once used “Bosnia” during a presentation about the Bosnian-Herzegovian genocide.
But there’s something special about “Daffodil Lament” that is so very soulful and chaotic at the same time. If you haven’t heard it, do. Dolores’s voice remains one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard, and her loss continues to sting.
Rest in peace.
